Remember When

Remember When

Hi Shenanigan Enthusiasts!

Another week and more shenanigans!!! One of the many things I love about having a funny farm is the fact that it makes me get outside and enjoy the sunrise and sunset every day. My lazy Saturday mornings are no more. At least not until I get my animal chores done. The whole gang is always so happy to hear me coming! Betty and June are the first ones out when I open the barn door. I can hear them snorting away with excitement for their morning meal, while the others shuffle about in anticipation of oats! The magic of the morning cannot escape me as I take in the brisk air, green hills, snowcapped mountains, big sky, grain silos below, elk and deer often wandering about, probably wishing they could have some oats too, as the whole funny farm gang hustles to get their share of the oats I sprinkle out for them. MY CHURCH. I feel close to God and thank Him for my many blessings in these moments.  My heart is GRATEUL.

Last Saturday as I was spreading out the oats and filling the water troughs when my muck boot literally got stuck in the muck and down, I went, knee deep in mud, muck and sh*t! I laughed out loud as the funny farm looked at me sideways, wondering what the heck I was doing. I looked up to the house to see if Jeff happened to see the shenanigans, knowing the boys were no doubt still crashed out in bed. Bummer for him he missed it. It would have started his Saturday off with a good belly laugh!!! That said, it was time to do an overhaul to the barn area post winter. We took down the fence to get the tractor in and went to work. Thank goodness for the tractor, it saved the day scooping all the winter mud, muck and sh*t away. Most of the animals didn't know what to think, but the pigs had not a care in the world, so I had to be on high alert to keep them out of the way. Rowdy was running around like a crazy bull wanting to go head-to-head with it. Oh, and the aroma, not so sweet! Just like life, sometimes you have to wade through the sh*t to get to the good stuff. By the end of the day whole gang was rolling in the fresh straw and loving it! I am hoping that the piles of sh*t we pushed down the hill will be great fertilizer for the wildflower seeds I threw out. The most beautiful things in life often blossom from the sh*t we grow through. The fertilizer of life, love, and all the best things! I love the little inspirations I get from the love and shenanigans here at the funny farm, so check out this link to see my new SH*T CREEK SURVIVOR inspirations line!

 Remember When.....

There is no one else I would rather survive life's inevitable sh*t with than my husband, Jeff, aka partner in "crime", life, love, learning, growing, parenting, moonshining, funny farming, and shenanigans. Twenty-two years ago, today we said I DO. Though we had been dating nearly six years we were still just babes in the woods at 21 and 22 years old. When we said I do to forever we meant it, but we didn't know then what we know now. We have had to choose each other over and over again through the years. It's easy to say forever when it's easy. We have grown together, grown apart, broke each other's hearts, laughed, cried, danced, learned, and most of all loved through it all. There were times I know we wanted to quit, we loved each other but didn't like each other. It hasn't all been easy, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Anyone can love through the easy stuff. We would never have known love like we know it today if we hadn't been through the sh*t creek of life and love. Even during those hard seasons of our journey when I would stop and look at him, not through the eyes of a wife navigating the trials of day-to-day challenges, but the eyes of someone new, the new woman I had grown to be, looking at the amazing new man he had grown to be, in those moments, I would fall in love all over again. It was in those moments I remembered why the hard sh*t was WORTH IT. He was worth it! Our family was worth it. Embrace the hard stuff, I promise when you get to the other side, it's worth it.

Another song from the soundtrack of my life, REMEMBER WHEN by Alan Jackson - click to listen

Remember when I was young and so were you
And time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when
Remember when we vowed the vows
And walk the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start and it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when
Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, dissassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when
Remember when the sound of little feet
Was the music we danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when

We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt.....

There has been joy and hurt along the way but here we are twenty-two years later better for where we have been. We know love like we couldn't have known it then. I believe in love. I believe in young love, old love, forever love, but no love lasts a lifetime without growing, learning, and most of all looking at how we can always be doing things better. Better as individuals, better as a couple and most of all how we can be a better partner. It's easy to point fingers at what someone else can do better. I am grateful our boys have witnessed us learn and grow in life and love. They see us more in love than ever, thriving in life, and together making our dreams, including this crazy funny farm a reality. My hope for them is to dream big, choose love, and embrace the hard sh*t when it comes their way in life because they will be better for it all.

Our Wedding Song- ME & YOU by Kenny Chesney- click to listen.

There's no way
I could ever let you go
Even if I wanted to
Every day I live
Try my best to give
All I have to you
I thank the stars above
That we share this love
Me and you....

....Ordinary, no, really don't think so, not a love this true. Cheers to another trip around the sun with my handsome hubby and best friend! I love living, laughing, growing, learning, shoveling sh*t, and doing this crazy, tragic, sometimes almost magic, awful, beautiful life with you! Most of all I love loving you!

Until we connect again, may you laugh 'til you snort, take the bull by the horns (GRIT), give yourself and others some GRACE, live a good story, climb your mountain, and always look for the magic to celebrate!

Much Gratitude,
