Life’s a Dance

Life’s a Dance

Hi Shenanigan Enthusiasts!

I love sitting down each week to share my heart with all of you. I am so grateful for our daily shenanigans and hopefully spreading a little light and love.

Let the shenanigans begin! Last night I let the whole gang out of the barnyard for an evening stroll. As usual everyone but Buddy scrambled out as fast as they could. I thought I was clever, tying a rope across the driveway from one fence line to the other. My hope was it would give Rowdy and the ‘pacas a boundary they wouldn’t cross. Everyone else is pretty good about not going too far. Of course, as life often goes, it didn’t go as I planned.

The ‘pacas, goats, and pigs meandered in their usual direction but Rowdy decided to go around the barn and on to the 200 acres adjacent to our property. We used to have fencing in that spot but Jeff cut it down so the elk could more easily navigate passing through. I hurried over that way but couldn’t see him in the tall grass. Eventually I spotted him looking like a lost pup aka lost steer at the fence that is still intact up the property line a bit. He was anxiously trying to figure out how to get back. With my favorite tunes singing in my pocket, I walked back down to the opening and crossed over so he could see me. It made my heart smile when he came running back to me in a full gallop hair flowing in the wind! I love my Rowdy.

He followed me through the opening, so happy to be back. He and the rest of the gang frolicked around exploring, nibbling the green grass, and head butting trees. BEST LIFE. Then they all made their way to my clever rope boundary which worked perfect-ish.....for all but Rowdy who found the lowest spot and stepped right over it. Luckily he happily stepped right back over as I gave him a nudge and wrangled everyone back toward the barnyard with my handy little golf cart! Funny Farm is an understatement!!!

Evening Shenanigans

While shoveling sh*t one morning this oldie but goodie played in my pocket.

Life’s a Dance by John Michael Montgomery (click to listen to this little bit of life perspective in a song)

Life's a dance you learn as you go

Sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow

Don't worry about what you don't know

Life's a dance you learn as you go

The longer I live the more I believe

You do have to give if you wanna receive

There's a time to listen, a time to talk

And you might have to crawl even after you walk

Had sure things blow up in my face

Seen the long shot, win the race

Been knocked down by the slammin' door

Picked myself up and came back for more

Life's a dance you learn as you go.

I have loved this song since I was a girl but I understand it more and more as I get older. Life really is a dance we learn as we go. I too, have had sure things blow up in my face, been knocked down, and always come back for more. I am ever evolving, and hopefully getting a little better at making the stumbles a part of the dance.

The magic happens when we get on the dance floor! Whether it’s life, love, or a funny farm - the goals, hopes, dreams can only happen when we actually dance. Sometimes we just have to pull on our boots and boogie. There have been so many times in life I have held myself back because I didn’t know the dance. Silly me, the only way to learn is to start dancing.

It might not be perfect, heck it might not even be perfect-ish but it’s LIVING. It’s only when we choose to LIVE and dare to LOVE that we find our rhythm.

The more I learn, the less I know, I know. Can you relate? There have been seasons I have conquered life and love and there have been seasons life and love have conquered me. It’s all a part of the dance I am learning as I go. I surely do not claim to have all the answers but have learned a few dance steps that make my dance perfect-ish and a lot more fun!

Dance Step 1. GRATITUDE - Be grateful

Even in the seasons I felt like life and love were conquering me, when my heart was heavy,  if I focused on what I was grateful for, counted my blessings and looked at what I could learn from the lessons ( the hard ass sh*t), my day was brighter. When we are grateful, more to be grateful for shows up. Magic.

In this season of my life I keep a Gratitude Journal. If you want to add this step to your dance you can find my favorite one HERE, The Five Minute Journal. But any journal will do!

Dance Step 2. FAITH - God is Guiding Me

I trust that I am being guided by something/someone greater than myself. When the load feels heavy I talk to God, and the heaviness is always lifted. I physically feel the relief. I promise that Faith - talking to God/ Spirit/Universe, whatever that is for you, will make your dance flow and allow GRACE when you stumble.

My go to prayer

Dance Step 3. HEALTH

Exercise, stretch, and make good food choices more often then not. Move your body every day! Dance. Even if it’s just a five minute yoga session. Your body will love you for it! I ♥️ nachos and pizza!!!! I love a good sip whether it’s coffee or whiskey or my hubby’s yummy homemade moonshine. When I want it, I have it. All things in moderation. Over all I try to make healthy choices, so I can enjoy the dance of life to the fullest! Here are a couple of my favorite easy resources for feeling my best!

Dance Step 4. ACTION

Be brave, get on the dance floor! Dreams don’t work unless we do. Sitting, waiting and wishing won’t make us better. Courage and being vulnerable enough to suck at first will help us find our groove. Risk it, do the thing that is on your heart to do, say the thing you want to say, take the leap or just the next step, and then the next, stumble but keep on dancing.

Dance Step 5. JOY

Take time to do what makes your soul happy every day. Get out in nature, shovel some sh*t, sip a good sip with someone who fills your cup,  enjoy the view, crank up your favorite tune, sing in the shower, dance in the kitchen, wear the red lipstick! Even when you don’t feel like it, that’s when you need to do it the most. Create joy in your life!! Be better, choose joy. There goes my musical brain...I love love love this song to dance around the house to!

Better When I’m Dancing by Megan Trainor (click to get your dancing joy on!)

Show the world you've got that fire

Feel the rhythm getting louder

Show the world what you can do

Prove to them you've got the moves

I don't know about you

But I feel better when I'm dancing, yeah, yeah

Better when I'm dancing, yeah, yeah

Oh, we can do this together

I bet you feel better when you're dancing? Yeah, yeah

Dance Step 6. CELEBRATE

Celebrate every tiny victory! Life is hard but the hard is what makes it meaningful. I have learned the dance gets better and better the more we celebrate! So look for something every day that is worth celebrating!!! When we celebrate the little things it paves the way for the big things to come! Celebrating keeps us in dancing through life! What are you celebrating today?

Cheers to celebrating and learning to dance as we go, here’s another fun one for dancing in the kitchen today!

CELEBRATE by Pitbull click to shake it)

 I just wanna celebrate

Tonight we're making history

I just wanna celebrate

I've been patientely waiting for you to shake it and shake it
